Rai joined Hallinans in January 2023. He graduated from UCL with a degree in Classics, before undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar Course (with an LLM in social housing law) at BPP University. He subsequently worked in civil litigation for almost two years, before moving into criminal law.

Rai volunteers in his spare time as an advocate for the Free Representation Unit, through which he represents clients in the Social Entitlement Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal.

A keen musician, Rai spends his free time playing the saxophone, piano, and organ.
